Dear All,

Thank you for volunteering to do the jobs each week which make our worship time run smoothly. Recently the job descriptions have been revised and here is a copy! Please read through the responsibilities of each duty, and if you have any questions, please ask a Parish Council member.

Please note there are a few added responsibilities, particularly in the Welcoming role.

READING

  • Find out reading from service leader or roster.
  • Read over to check any difficult words (preparation makes a difference to how the reading comes across!)
  • Introduce yourself and the reading, including a page reference.
  • Give people a few moments to find the page.
  • Deliver on the day.

PRAYERS

  • Speak to service leader/Sandy or pastoral team during week for current prayer points/needs.

  • Welcome people as they arrive, smile and introduce yourself, offer them a bible and any current handouts.  Encourage everyone to wear their name tag. Please do not stand behind a table or desk to welcome it is much more engaging to be front and centre.
  • Newcomers may need to be directed to a vacant seat. Please give new people a Welcome card/bulletin to fill in, and tell them about activities for kids if relevant, also that morning tea is provided after church.
  • Please keep an eye on the time, and a few minutes before 10 ask everyone to move into church and take a seat for the service.
  • Fill in blue service register (in top left drawer).
  • Take up collection during appointed song, return plate to the service leader at front for blessing.
  • Endeavour to catch up with newcomers after the service ideally, accompany them into the hall for a cuppa. Ask them if they have filled in their card, and post in the red box or give to Sandy. and introduce them to others of a similar age, or others with children, etc. (This is more important than stacking the bibles back!)
  • There is a Welcomers Checklist in the top left hand drawer. Please make yourselves familiar with the list of duties.

MORNING TEA

  • Arrive at least 20 minutes before service. Fill urn and turn on, bring out cups etc.
  • Please bring fresh milk if possible, or there may be long life milk in the cupboard if you forget! Same with biscuits.
  • Place jugs of water, glasses and plastic cups on table in hall, as well as sugar, spoons, milk etc. for peoples use.
  • Please serve hot drinks through the servery, so the urn is out of reach of children.
  • Wash up after and put cups and dishes away, may use dishwasher if desired.
  • Leave kitchen clean and tidy with urn and lights off. Take tea towels home to wash.

CLEANING

  • The cleaning duty is to be done ahead of the Sunday rostered. Please liaise with your cleaning buddy to find a good time. If Youth Groups are meeting Friday nights, need to clean after these events.
  • Each week the toilets, chapel and one other area of the church are cleaned and tidied.
  • Cleaning products are in cleaning cupboard as well as the cupboard in the disabled toilet (*if locked the key is in the kitchen drawer), as well as a list of what is to be cleaned on your week.
  • We do love a fresh flower arrangement if you have access to them.
  • We have artificial flowers, but they still need checking for arrangement and cleanliness! They are stored in the store cupboard in the hall.
  • Vacuuming sanctuary only. Hall is vacuumed after each group uses it.
  • Once you have finished, please take home the dirty cloths to wash (and return!)
  • If you notice any supplies are low, please make a note on kitchen white board.
