In the last two years, the Diocese has written to all Anglican churches about the seriousness and subsequent very large fines for individuals and organizations for any breach of care towards children. Also, the Department of Justice and Regulation, which operates the Working With Children’s Check (WWCC), has broadened the coverage of this check to include all church ministry leaders (involving direct or indirect, supervised or unsupervised contact with children), as well as those church members engaged in child related work.
All leaders and members of the ministries of the St Luke’s parish council, preachers, service leaders, welcoming, kid’s church, crèche, youth leaders, small group leaders, pastoral help, and Hills Community Strengthening Initiative (HCSI) need to have a current WWCC. For the other ministries of the church, only the leaders (not the members) are required to have a WWCC.
Those people who have a Victorian Institute of Teaching card also need to apply for a volunteer WWCC as the school they are working at may or may not communicate with volunteer organizations. Volunteer WWCC are free of charge.
